They are Lapid Leaders, young adults pursuing their dreams; young adults determined to live out excellence in all they do, young adults with a great work ethic, young adults who not only believe that it is Africa’s time but who will be the change they want to see. Meet the first cohort of Lapid Leaders, a remarkable set of leaders.
Joan graduated from University of Nairobi in 2014 with a degree in Bachelor of Commerce (Procurement & Supply Chain Management). She is a very reliable person, with great administrative and organizational skills. If you give Joan any task, you can be sure she will deliver great quality within the agreed upon time.
Joan’s story to Africa will be one of innovation and creation of unique solutions. Joan was the brains behind one of the most innovative business ideas developed during the Lapid Leaders – Entrepreneurship program.
Over the last 3 months, we have watched Joan blossom from a shy individual into a great reliable leader. If ever there was an award for the most improved Lapid Leader, Joan would have it. Joan, the sky is your limit, chase after the sky. You are faithful in doing the small things, this will open doors for you. We cannot wait to see what God does through you.
Elissa is a finalist student of University of Nairobi, she will graduate with a degree in Bachelor of Law. Elissa is a highly gifted individual. She has the ability to deliver on any task excellently. She has a genuine love for people and so is able to collaborate with others to get the best results.
Elissa tirelessly worked on building the business ideas developed during the Lapid Leaders program. She fully applied herself to the various tasks assigned to her. Elissa is a natural leader and will continue to contribute her leadership skills to the continent of Africa.
Elissa will be a great addition to any organization. As she continues to submit to God’s leading over her life, she will do great things for Africa.
Jane is a fourth year student at Kenyatta University pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Commerce – Human Resource Management option. She has a kind, compassionate heart and is clearly pursuing the right degree. She has overcome insurmountable challenges to become the leader she is blossoming into.
Jane’s story to Africa’s children will be one of mentoring the next generation. She is one of the very few people from her rural village who have been able to pursue a degree. She is determined to ensure she is not the last one by mentoring the high school students.
With her heart for people and her resilience, Jane is a lady to watch out for; she will do great things that promote people development.
Eugene is a fourth year student pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing). He is also the Vice President of the Lapid Leaders Council.
Eugene is a highly gifted marketer with very good communication skills. He has the ability to utilize words to create an amazing story.
When the Lapid Leaders program kicked off, Eugene had very limited interest in entrepreneurship. As we conclude the program, he has a dream to set up an entrepreneurship forum referred to as ‘Africa Forum’.
Eugene will continue to evolve to a leading marketing professional. He has the potential to be a great marketer and a leader of his generation.
Kezia is a finalist student of University of Nairobi, she will graduate with a degree in Bachelor of Arts (Environmental Studies, Geography and Sociology). She is a natural leader has the ability to influence those around her with great ease.
Kezia’s contribution to Africa will involve creative and disruptive thinking. She is a highly creative individual with a nut for producing great events. She won the Lapid Leaders Creativity Award. We cannot wait to see Kezia evolve into a creative leader who is impacting society in many ways.
Mercy is a fourth year student at University of Nairobi pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Arts (Economics). She is a natural leader. Her greatest asset is a good work ethic and a teachable spirit. Mercy was previously a student leader and represented the students in a conference in Germany.
As Mercy completes her university education and embarks on building her career, she will be a great addition to any employer. Her teachable spirit and willingness to learn will open many doors for her. Mercy won the Lapid Leaders Excellence award.
We cannot wait to see Mercy become a Market Leader.
Christine Maina went to be with the Lord on 14 May 2015. Christine recently completed her degree in Bachelor of Commerce, Marketing from Daystar University. Christian was a rare gem; she had a loving spirit. She gave the best of herself to all that engaged in. She laughed hard, she engaged with the Lapid Leaders program fully, a life well lived!
Christine was a natural social entrepreneur. She was interested in developing solutions that produced impact in the lives of people. As part of the program, she developed a business idea that involved producing and supplying cheap biodegradable pads.
Christine, we loved you but have no doubt God loved you more. We salute you our friend, our sister, a true Lapid Leader. We celebrate God for allowing you to be one of us. We are glad you had completed the Lapid Leaders program and was vocal on the impact the program had on your life. We have renamed the Overall Lapid Leaders award to Christine Maina Overall Leader Award, in memory of you. Rest in peace Christine.
Timothy is a third year student at Africa Nazarene University pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT). He is passionate about IT and IT related solutions.
He has an entrepreneurial mindset. He is part of the team that has developed an events management mobile application called YEYO. Over the last 3 months, we have witnessed Timothy get out his shell and become more vocal and confident in his ideas. This is just the beginning, we cannot wait to see Timothy produce many more solutions to Africa’s problems.
Grace is a fourth year student at Africa Nazarene University pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Arts (Peace Studies and Conflict Management). She is passionate about governance in Africa.
She has a servant heart and a teachable spirit. Grace provided administrative support to the pioneer Lapid Leaders programs. Grace took up an internship opportunity availed by a mentor of Lapid Leaders, and has delivered such high quality results that she was recently promoted to an Administrative Assistant.
The sky is the limit for Grace. We cannot wait to see the exploits Grace gets into as stretches out of her comfort zone.
Mercy holds a degree in Bachelor of Law from University of Nairobi. She is an enthusiastic, highly talented leader. She strives to live out excellence in all that she does.
Mercy is great legal mind who will do great things in whichever field she chooses to pursue. She is passionate about human rights, especially with regard to religion related matters.
We cannot wait to see Mercy blossom into the servant leader God plans for her to be.
Wairimu will graduate from Catholic University of East Africa with a degree in Bachelor of Law. She is also the President of the Lapid Leaders Council.
She is fearless leader and a very gifted individual. Her greatest asset is her collaboration skills; she seeks to build and support others, and works well with people.
Wairimu’s contribution to Africa’s will be entrepreneurial. She is in the process of setting up a healthy foods business. She is able to engage in business development with ease.
We cannot wait to see Wairimu build some of the biggest business (es) of her generation.
